I have to come to terms with the fact, creatively, I can be obsessively detail oriented which means it’s nearly impossible for me to publish posts quickly, however, I also have a camera full of random pictures I really would like to share with you, so I’ll be calling this feature “Indiana Drive-by (Photo) Shooting” so I can quickly share pictures from the road. Nothing fancy, mind you, I’m about as natural at taking pictures as I am at having my pictures taken (not at all).
I took these drive-by’s yesterday, it’s an abandoned one-room school house near the intersection of US 6 and Tamarack Road, Walkerton, IN. The engraved stone above the door says “District No. 2, Polk TP, 1901”. I have seen one-room school houses repurposed into homes, so it always makes me a little sad to see these old buildings empty. There was a sign taped to the front door which read “Private Property, No Trespassing” and you can see by the photos how brave I am….from the street.
And finally, this last picture, also taken near the old school house, had my two worlds colliding! You can see shoes hanging from telephone and electrics lines most often in a city, like Chicago. Urban legend has it, shoes hanging from telephone or electric lines indicate secret gang “code” for territory lines or maybe “I killed a snitch here.” I’m not trying to imply anything, but…..you should probably beware of “activity” near that country corner, if you know what I mean. (Someone may be shooting……a camera or uh, maybe, a deer?)
